The UK Children's Fine Art Competition
The UK Children's Fine Art Competition is an exciting, highly rewarding and all inclusive fine art competition which aims to raise the aspirations of children and reduce levels of racism across the UK.
There is currently no other annual fine art competition to compare with the UK Children's Fine Art Competition.
Other art competitions relevant to children in the UK tend to be “one offs”, annual but small, or purely art focused and offering little to the rest of the curriculum. The UK Children's Fine Art Competition is not like that.
Instead it provides cross-curricular learning opportunities in History, Geography, Citizenship, Religious Studies...as well as Art in order to achieve the following objectives:
Raise standards in art among children in the United Kingdom
Inspire the young people of the United Kingdom and raise their aspirations
Celebrate the achievements of the working people of the United Kingdom in helping to rebuild Lidice (see below)
Raise young people's awareness of the UK's industrial heritage
Raise awareness and understanding of other cultures and nations
This is echoed by the full support it receives from Central Government:
"It is really important that all pupils experience a broad and rich curriculum and are given access to high quality, nationally focused cross-curricular cultural activities. The Government welcomes the type of visual arts experience which competitions such as the Art Venue CIC's UK Children's Fine Art Competition can provide..." Department for Education
The UK Children's Fine Art Competition is the exclusive UK tributary to the annual International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts (ICEFA) - the largest fine art competition for children in the world. The ICEFA has been running for 40 years now and receives, on average, 30,000 entries from around 70 countries. It is organized and coordinated by The Lidice Gallery in Lidice, Czech Republic.
You may be aware that it was the village of Lidice which was bulldozed by the Nazis in a filmed atrocity in June 1942. All men were shot, the children gassed and the women sent to concentration camps.
Through art, the ICEFA and UK Children's Fine Art Competitions aim to endow children round the world with the values of
Friendship
Tolerance
Empathy
Respect
Responsibility
to ensure that callous acts like Lidice (and others since) cease to be a part of life.
For people in the UK, the Lidice story is very important as it was the fundraising efforts and the actions of ordinary British workers, in defiance of Hitler, which saw the eventual rebuilding of Lidice after the Second World War. I should also add that the man who led the campaign, the councillor Barnett Stross, was a Polish immigrant of jewish faith.

This year's theme is "The Theatre, The Puppet, The Fairytale". And as The UK Children's Fine Art Competition is an exclusive partner of the Lidice Gallery, any artworks submitted to the UK competition are also entered into the global ICEFA. So you could say it's two serious fine art competitions for children rolled into one!
All children who enter are winners as each child receives a special certificate acknowledging the hard work and application they've put in. But there are also some significant prizes on offer to children and schools who've produced artwork deemed exceptional by our renowned judges (including Alexander Millar, Peter Smith and Frederick Phillips). And at both county and national level!
