Vegetarian Shoes

Animal Friendly Footwear

Welcome to the latest range of products from www.Vegetarian-Shoes.Co.Uk . Since 1990 when Veggie Shoes first started, we have come a long way. When Robin Webb started the business back then, he made all the shoes by hand. In fact, originally he only made one style -a basic lace up shoe.

4 years earlier after leaving Art College, he taught himself how to make shoes - he was inspired to hear that in parts of Africa, car tyres were recycled into soles. This got him thinking and soon he was making shoes out of anything he could lay his hands on, but being veggie he didn't want to use leather. Then he made an exciting discovery - a synthetic Microfibre material used for yachting upholstery. It looked and felt like supple leather, but was 'breathable', unlike other plastics. After some experimenting, he realised that this was what he had been looking for, and Vegetarian Shoes was born. The range of styles quickly grew, as well as shoes he made boots, sandals and belts from this new fabric. Every thing was made to order and as the word spread he got busier and busier to the point where he could not make the things fast enough! So he took his material to a footwear factory to get them to make shoes for his business. He then had the stock needed to mail-order to veggies all over the country!

The shop is located on Gardner Street in Brighton and is open Monday to Saturday 10am to 6pm
