Cleaner Breathing When Pregnant
By Ina Woolcott
* Ventilate whenever you can.
* Keeping windows and doors open encourages the release of pollutants when
for instance hoovering, dusting, frying, cleaning, folding clothes or
painting.
* Follow the manufacturers' guidelines when using household products. Never
mix products unless the label gives instructions to do so.
* if you use spray cleaners, keep the nozzle close to the area you wish to
apply it to and spray in short, directed bursts. Avoid human and pet traffic
until you wash the area with soap and water. Or even better, just use a damp
flannel to remove dust and then dry. That's what I do!
* When coming into your home, take your shoes off immediately as they can
bring in harmful chemicals, bacteria and dirt from the outdoors.
* Pay attention to air-quality advisories in the media, especially if you
live in a big city. Don't exercise outdoors during these times.
* If possible limit the amount of time you spend inside a car as some
pollutant levels can be higher inside than outside. In heavy traffic areas
look for less travelled routes.
* Hold your breath or turn your head away when you see exhaust fumes or
whilst putting petrol in your car.
To be TOTALLY avoided are:
* Tobacco smoke
* Pesticides
* Kerosene heaters
* Improperly maintained stoves
* Paint fumes
* Solvents
