Flexi Schooling is an option of home schooling in the United Kingdom. What is flexi schooling? It is a program that was designed to have the child attend public school part time and then attend home school part time. The arrangement is made between the parents and the school they child is enrolled in.

There may be many reasons why this arrangement could be made. These reasons are due to Illness such as diabetes, or cancer. An illness that would prevent the child from getting to school. Another reason would be that maybe a parent wants to home school but there are some subjects that they would rather be taught in school. The child may not want to attend school for some reason. So the deal is to make the child go part time in exchange to be home schooled the other half of the day.

The advantages of flexi schooling are that it allows the parent to be more hands on with their child’s education. Plus the parent will always know the homework is getting done. They will also know how their child is taking in all of the information that is given to them from both the school and from the parent.

The disadvantages of the flexi school is that of one involving the SAT’s, as long as a child is enrolled at a school, then the SAT scores will be counted when they decide to go to University. If the child doesn’t take the SAT’s then the score will be counted as zero, making it harder to get into the University. The same applies to the GCSE’s.

Another disadvantage is that the LEA may not approve the idea. You need their permission before going ahead with it. So you would need a good excuse why you need this program. Some kids will not do so well, going to school part time and home schooling the next part of the day. There is so much going on with traveling and settling in, it may be better to just pick one or the other.
