One of subjects that are required for home schooling is Math. The beginning math is easy to up until the 8th grade. The early math is when the learning becomes more important. The type of math you used in the first 8 or 9 years of school is the type of math you will carry around with you forever. So it is more important to enforce the concept of math.

The first math lessons should be to make sure your child knows how to count, then addition should be the first math concept your child learns. Single digits, then advance to double digits and so on should teach the addition.

Subtraction should be next, this will take a little more time to teach because the concept at a young age is hard to comprehend. Teaching multiplication tables and multiplying are the next lessons. Make sure your child knows how to do the multiplication tables, show them the tricks on the 5 and 9 times tables, it will be easier for them to learn.

Short and long division is your next lessons, this will be difficult to teach and will take a lot longer for the child to understand. Be patient and take your time, remember you child is learning on your schedule not a school. This is your opportunity to teach your child the right way and the way you know that they will understand.

Math in the future grades will consist of word problems, fractions, and fractions to decimals, geometry, algebra and maybe calculus. They all depend on your child’s learning capabilities are.
